University of Technology, Jamaica - Post- Basic Diploma in Meat and Other Foods Inspection

The programme emphasizes quality assurance of meat and other foods at all stages from the point of production to the point of consumption through the application of relevant principles and procedures in order to ensure a safe and wholesome food supply to the consuming public.

Students gain experience by the actual inspection of food from animals, meat, other foods, relevant food handling establishments, and by participating in various laboratory analyses.

The course, which is comprised of 21 credit hours is accomplished over 19 weeks. One batch of student is admitted in March of each academic year.

  • Entry Requirements: 1. The Course is primarily intended for Public Health Inspectors who are holders of the Diploma in Public Health Inspection.
    2. Diploma holders must have two(2) years working experience as a Public Health Inspector.
    Trained Public Health Inspector with the Certificate or Diploma from the West Indies School of Public Health or other recognized institution.
    OR
    Trained Public Health Inspector with the Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health from the University of Technology or other recognized institution.
    AND
    At least two(2) years of working experience in the field after certification.
    Successful evaluation in the Psychometric test.
