HEART/ NSTA Trust- NVQ Level 2 Aquaculture (Food Fish Production)

 SKILLED AGRICULTURAL, FORESTRY AND FISHERY WORKERS

Aquaculture is the breeding, rearing, and harvesting of fish, shellfish, plants, algae and other organisms in all types of water environments. There are two main types of aquaculture—marine and freshwater. The learner would have successfully completed Level 1 in Aquaculture (Food Fish Production) and be knowledgeable in the basics of aquatic production designs and systems for food fish production.

 

At Level 2 the learner/trainee will fabricate and maintain aquaculture systems; integrate fish and vegetable production (aquaponics); manage the health of food fish; operate tractor with implement; and harvest produce and prepare fish for markets. This qualification is for persons who wish to participate in the production of food fish with limited supervisions. It includes a range of production activities relating to feeding food fish, environmental management, fabrication and maintenance of aquaculture system and the harvesting of food fish.
