The Bachelor of Science in Mines and Quarry Management (BScMQM) was designed to produce graduates who have the requisite skills and competencies to make sound judgments in solving problems related to mines and quarries. The graduates should be able to provide effective management at the middle to top level in the mining and quarrying industry. The course is aligned to the university’s philosophy, goals and objectives which include positively impacting Jamaica and the wider Caribbean through high quality learning opportunities, research and value-added solutions to government, industry and communities. The course development was supported by the UNDP which seeks to strengthen ailing industries in developing countries such as the mining and quarrying industry in Jamaica. The course is four (4) years in duration, organised on a full-time basis over an academic year consisting of approximately thirty weeks (2 semesters).

  • Entry Requirements: 5 CSEC/GCE O-Level passes including English Language, Mathematics, and three (3) other approved subjects. Preferably subjects from the following groups: Earth Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Business. (O’ Level with A, B & C or CXC CSEC Grades 1, 2, & 3 since 1998.)

    The following are the PLA options which may allow an applicant to matriculate into the undergraduate course of study: Where passes in CSEC or GCE Ordinary Level examinations are needed, the applicant may pursue equivalent subjects at the UTech Academy. Students must attain a minimum passing grade of 50%. Certificates, Diplomas and Associate Degrees acquired from accredited/recognized institutions may also be used to matriculate into the course of
    study once these are recommended by the PLA Unit as equivalent to the normal entry requirements.
