University of the West Indies - Bachelor of Science in Animal Biology
The BSc. in Animal Biology prepares its students for careers involving the care, production, and conservation of animal life. The programme examines the evolutionary origins of the various groups of animals, their structure, physiology, interspecific associations, defence mechanisms, ecology and behaviour.
The programme aims to do the following:
- Introduce the complexities of biological organisation of animals at a variety of levels (from cellular to whole organisms to taxonomic groups).

- Explain the effects of interspecific associations, defence mechanisms, and evolutionary forces on the success of animals.
- Instill an understanding of ethical and welfare issues related to animal biology.
- Develop skills in laboratory and field techniques that are used in the study of animal science.
- Emphasize the communication of zoological information and concepts in an effective manner.
Students pursuing this programme are required to take a minimum of thirty-nine (39) advanced credits.
