University of the West Indies - Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy
Physical Therapy is a health profession, concerned with health promotion, prevention of physical disabilities and the rehabilitation of persons disabled by pain, disease or injury. The aim of the BSc. in Physical Therapy is to prepare entry level Physical Therapists with the required knowledge, skills, attitudes and techniques to deliver quality health care, competently and effectively in order to improve level of health care in the Caribbean.
Students who are awarded the BSc. in Physical Therapy degree are required to complete an internship period of (1) year in an acute or rehabilitation hospital in order to register to practice in Jamaica. Upon the successful completion of the internship period, they become eligible for registration with the Council for Professions Supplementary to Medicine, Kingston, Jamaica. Registration with the Council for Professions Supplementary to Medicine is a legal requirement for the practice of Physical Therapy in Jamaica, West Indies.
Completion of this course of study will enable the individual to practice physical therapy in Jamaica and other CARICOM Countries.

Entry Requirements:
Five CSEC
The minimum academic standard for entry is an average of two 3’s and one 2 at Unit 2 CAPE or one B and two C’s at GCE Advanced Level chosen from Chemistry, Biology/Zoology, Physics or Mathematics or Equivalent Qualifications.
*Complete 60 voluntary hours in a physical therapy facility at the time of admission; at least 30 of which must be spent in a general hospital. Candidates must make their own arrangements for doing the voluntary hours.
