Who is this qualification for: This qualification targets Individuals wishing to advance their career in the
Media and Entertainment Production Industry. Stage Set-up Management gives consideration to acquiring
and using the relevant tools and equipment, stage design, lighting, backdrop and stage sets. Planning,
coordinating and organization skills are of paramount importance in this field of study.
Persons who complete this NVQ-J may explore several career options; Stage Manager, Set Designer,
Multimedia Manager and Production Manager.
Qualification Description: The knowledge and skills components of this qualification, are geared towards
coordinating all the different aspects of production relating to stage set-up. These range from the costumes,
sets, and props to actors and rehearsals, so that everything runs smoothly. Persons who access this
programme will cover the management of work space for production which involves, designing and
managing technical production, designing and coordinating lighting and production, managing audio of
production, managing and integrating audio-visual elements into technical production, managing marketing
and continuous improvement in media and entertainment, and incorporating technology to improve
organizational development and applying human relations and self-management skills within the industry.
Qualification Value: This qualification is aligned to the National Qualification Framework of Jamaica and
is equivalent to a Vocational Undergraduate Degree. It provides a basis for matriculation and is an alternate
route to higher education. Having successfully completed this programme, candidates will be awarded a
recognised NVQJ Level 5 qualification, which is regionally and internationally accepted.
